Melou Terms of Service

Last updated: February 26, 2025 | Effective date: February 26, 2025

Welcome to Melou. This service is provided by Lychee Intelligence Co., Ltd.(Tax ID: 52793299, Address: 8F-1, No. 259, Section 1, Fuxing South Road, Da’an District, Taipei, Taiwan). Before you get started, we’d like to explain a few important things in plain language. These terms are here so that both you and we can use this service with peace of mind — not to scare you off.

1. What Melou is

Melou is a self-writing tool that helps you record your feelings and organize your thoughts. You can leave your thoughts behind in text or voice, and then look at what you’ve written from different AI perspectives.

But there’s something important we need to say upfront:

Melou is not a medical service, and it is not psychological counseling.

The AI responses we provide are “reflective perspectives” designed around psychological theory. They’re meant to help you see more possibilities, not to give you a diagnosis or treatment advice. AI responses do not constitute any form of medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice, and users should not rely on them to make health-related decisions. If you’re going through serious emotional distress, having thoughts of self-harm, or feeling prolonged pain, please seek help from a licensed doctor or therapist.

2. Who can use it

This app is rated 16+ on the App Store. We expect users to be at least 16 years old.

If you’re under 16 and would like to use Melou, please let your parent or guardian know and use it with their consent. Melou is not designed specifically for children, and the content may involve emotional exploration and self-reflection.

3. Your content belongs to you

The journal entries you write, the voice notes you record, and your conversations with the AI inside Melou all belong to you.

This content lives only on your phone. We don’t upload it to the cloud, we don’t use it to train AI, and we don’t sell it to anyone. For details on how we handle data, please see our Privacy Policy.

One thing to keep in mind: because your data only lives on your device, if you delete the app, this content will be gone with it, and we won’t be able to help you recover it.

4. Subscription plans and payment

Subscription plans

This app offers the following subscription plans:

PlanMonthly chat quotaPsychology mastersAI review reportsPrice
Free15 messages2-Free
Lite50 messages3WeeklyNT$99/month or NT$790/year
Plus300 messagesAllWeekly + MonthlyNT$290/month or NT$2,300/year

Plan contents and pricing may be adjusted at any time. What’s shown in the App Store is always authoritative, and prices may vary by region. This table is for reference only.

14-day free trial

New users can enjoy a 14-day free trial:

  • During the trial you can experience the full Plus plan
  • You will not be charged or auto-renewed after the trial ends
  • If you like it, you can choose a subscription plan during or after the trial
  • The trial is limited to one per device

Auto-renewing subscriptions

These are the important things Apple requires us to tell you (for paid subscriptions):

  • Auto-renewal: Your subscription will automatically renew unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • Billing time: The renewal fee will be charged to your Apple ID account within 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • Price changes: If the subscription price changes, we’ll notify you in advance, and you can choose whether to continue

Managing and canceling subscriptions

You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time:

  1. Open “Settings” on your iPhone/iPad
  2. Tap your Apple ID (your name at the top)
  3. Tap “Subscriptions”
  4. Select the Melou subscription
  5. Tap “Cancel Subscription” or choose another plan

Or go directly to: Apple subscription management

Note: After canceling, you can still use paid features until the end of the current period. Deleting the app does not automatically cancel your subscription— please cancel it manually.

Refund policy

All in-app purchases made through the App Store are governed by the Apple Media Services Terms. To request a refund, please contact Apple Support directly.

5. A few things to keep in mind

We want Melou to be a space where people feel safe, so there are a few things we’d like you to respect:

  • Please use it normally — don’t hammer the AI features with scripts or bots
  • Don’t try to crack, reverse-engineer, or attack our service
  • Don’t use Melou for anything illegal
  • Don’t impersonate others or provide false information

If we find someone seriously abusing the service, we may restrict or terminate access from that device. But don’t worry — if you’re using it normally, this doesn’t apply to you.

6. About the AI features

Melou’s AI features run through third-party services (such as OpenAI). This means:

  • When you use the AI chat features, the text you input is sent to these services for processing
  • We use paid plans that offer privacy protection options and are configured so your data is not used for model training
  • But we can’t 100% control the behavior of third-party services — please refer to their privacy policies for details

Also, AI sometimes says things that are imperfect or inaccurate. This is a limitation of the current technology. Please treat AI responses as “another angle to think from,” not as authoritative answers.

7. Intellectual property

In short:

  • Your content is yours: the journals you write and the voice notes you record — the copyright belongs to you
  • Melou’s design is ours: the app’s interface, copy, icons, code, and so on belong to us or our licensors

Without our written consent, you may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of this app.

8. The service may change

We’ll keep improving Melou, which means:

  • Features may be added, adjusted, or removed
  • Maintenance may cause brief interruptions from time to time
  • Pricing may be updated (existing subscribers will be notified before the end of the current period)
  • In extreme cases (for example, if we can no longer operate), the service may be terminated

If there are major changes, we’ll give notice as far in advance as we can. But because Melou uses local storage, even if the service shuts down, the journal content on your phone will still be there (just without AI features).

We are not liable for service interruptions or unavailability caused by force majeure such as natural disasters, war, government action, network outages, or third-party service downtime.

9. Limits of liability

We take Melou seriously, but there are things we can’t guarantee:

  • That the service will be 100% uninterrupted and bug-free
  • That AI responses will always be correct or appropriate for your situation
  • That using Melou will necessarily improve your mental state
  • Any data loss caused by device damage, app removal, or other reasons

Melou is a tool to support your self-awareness, and results vary from person to person. We’ll do our best to provide a good experience, but the final decisions about use and the evaluation of results are up to you.

To the maximum extent permitted by law: we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages; our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you have paid us in the past 12 months.

10. Termination

  • You can stop using this app and delete it at any time
  • If you violate these terms, we may suspend or terminate your access
  • After termination, the disclaimers and limitation-of-liability clauses in these terms remain in effect

11. Updates to these terms

These terms may be adjusted as the service evolves. If there are major changes, we’ll let you know a reasonable time before they take effect, through:

  • An update notice inside the app
  • A clear note in the version update changelog indicating the terms have been updated

Continuing to use Melou after the changes take effect means you agree to the latest version of the terms. If you don’t agree to the new terms, you can stop using and delete the app before they take effect.

12. Legal

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan), without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. For any dispute that needs to be resolved through legal means, the Taiwan Taipei District Court shall be the court of first instance. (We hope we never have to get there!)

13. Apple-specific terms

This app is distributed through the Apple App Store, and the following terms apply:
